Reconstructing Her

I love Jesus. I write to empower women to live out of their true identity and form their life by His words and ways.

Hello beloved sister.

Thanks for choosing to lean in and listen. Over the last 20 years, God has invited me to partner with Him in caring for and building up His daughters. I’ve led numerous bible studies, enjoyed discipling women as individuals or in small groups, and mentored young leaders.  I’ve wept alongside women experiencing excruciating loss and prayed with women clinging to their faith after “church hurt” or “church abuse.”  I’ve balanced a life of ministry while working as a pediatric physical therapist at a local children’s hospital and raising two daughters.

For many years, I was a pastor’s wife. Internally, I resisted that title. I didn’t match the stereotype that went with it. I was strong, outspoken and opinionated. I sensed that God wanted my gifts for His kingdom, in addition to my husbands. I uncovered a growing passion to see women rise up in leadership within the church.  My journey with God shifted as I deconstructed my church experiences while holding tightly to the Jesus I loved. I learned that a life of connection to Jesus produced abundant joy and genuine transformation. I gained the courage to embrace my truest identity as the Beloved. I reconstructed a life that more fully reflects life in His Kingdom.

When I look around me, I see women who are longing for an authentic faith, wrestling against the tide of culture, are worn out, even sometimes lonely and looking for other like-minded women. I hope to be a wise guide who can help her on the journey of building again. Reshaping the way she sees herself and what she believes about how God sees her. Restoring what has been lost, broken, or altered. Reforming how she spends her time, energy and resources.

I’ve shared my life for over 20 years with my husband, Greg. He has a master’s degree in Apologetics from Biola University. He’s an incredibly gifted teacher who pours his life into the discipleship of high school students. His favorite classes are Christian Worldview and the Life of Jesus. Together, we co-lead a house church through a network of house churches in Kansas City.

After years of struggling with infertility and loss, God gifted me two beautiful daughters. They are currently navigating the highs and lows of teenage life. And I adore them.

As a family, we love spending time boating on Grand Lake in Oklahoma, telling stories and eating S’mores around our backyard fire pit, making memories as we check off our summer bucket list, annual traditions, traveling to new places, and being each other’s biggest fans.

If you know Greg, you already know that he is generous with his love, cares for his people so much, and gets a ton of joy from giving his life away to others. He loves his students and it’s his one of his greatest joys to teach them about Jesus, especially this year’s Senior class. Jumping back on social media after a three month h Jumping back on social media after a three month hiatus because it’s this girls GRADUATION week! 😭

Last week, our pastor asked us to remember a time when God moved against insurmountable odds. I was immediately taken back to my pregnancy with Hailey. After 2 years of multiple miscarriages and numerous infertility tests, I was pregnant! Around 9 weeks, I started bleeding at work. In that moment, instead of feeling fear, I was filled with the peace of God. I calmly finished treating a patient and then drove to the doctors office. I sang worship songs in the car the whole way there, praying over this baby growing inside of me. And the ultrasound gave the affirmation of what I already knew…the baby’s heartbeat was strong. The bleeding was coming from a different place. And God was giving me the desire of my heart: to be a mother.

Now, here we are, another Mother’s Day and I’m looking at my grown daughter and remember his faithfulness. Not just one but two incredible daughters!

This week we will celebrate @hailey.gwynn.o as she graduates high school and gets ready to head to @johnbrownuniversity ❤️ I’m so proud of you Hailey! If I cry a lot, it’s all because of how much I love you!

Snow days are the perfect day to create! I spent t Snow days are the perfect day to create! I spent time writing and made blueberry cornbread pudding from leftover cornbread muffins. Then, I hired my lovely daughter Brooklyn to create art on my nails. She is so incredibly talented and this was my first experience being one of her clients!

I love seeing both of my girls thrive in different ways when it comes to their creative gifts. God is the Creator who made us to create. And it’s beautiful!
In Exodus, God passes before Moses and says, let m In Exodus, God passes before Moses and says, let me tell you what I am like:
"The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands...."

Compassionate and gracious almost always go together in the scriptures. And, they are exclusively used in reference to God, no other persons. The Psalms repeatedly echo these two characteristics of God.

Jesus, in human form, embodies being compassionate and gracious. Throughout the gospels, we see how Jesus was moved with compassion.

As we choose to live as Jesus did, may we move towards others with compassion and grace.
