I finished a half-marathon today. My first in over

I finished a half-marathon today. My first in over 5 years! Official finish of 2:18. Not my fastest but one I’m really proud of. Mostly because I keep thinking about all the obstacles I overcame to reach this moment!

Back in 2019, I decided to make some massive changes in my eating habits by starting WW. I lost almost 40 pounds over the course of a year (6 months in-Covid arrived on the scene). Running was still part of my routine but, I wasn’t training for any races. (Thank you again pandemic!)

In spring of 2022, I was ready to get back to a half. I trained from Feb to May and 6 days before the race, I tested positive for Covid. My energy level tanked and my lungs weren’t in any shape for running. Not to mention, the 10 days of isolation. It was a massive disappointment for me.

I honestly didn’t know if I had it in me to train again. Thanks to
@jolenegranfors for inspiring me to go for it! She invited me to train for the Plaza 10k in September and as we crossed the finish line, she was already thinking about a half marathon.

Once I said yes to training, there was no looking back. Today’s race was 7 miles of rain followed by many miles of dodging puddles and trying to keep my footing on a sand/gravel trail. But, my mind was set on running hard and finishing strong. My playlist was solid and my confidence relied on the one who is always with me: Jesus. No part of it was easy. What goal would be worth it if it was?

And I did it or more accurately, WE did it!Thanks to @g.l.owens_kc and @billgranfors for being our cheering squad! And to my running buddies, Jolene and @jilm21 ….you girls kept me in it week after week! What race will we do next?🤣

This precious girl turned three today and her celebration included a special, custom-made car from @variety_kc and local high school robotics teams. After 25 years of being a pediatric PT, this is what I love the most: developing relationships with incredible kids. What a gift to be invited to her special day!

When you start your day with a 10 mile training ru

When you start your day with a 10 mile training run and then catch up on all your house cleaning, grocery shopping, and organizing that you haven’t had time to get to….this is what your step count looks like at 6:45pm. WHEW! Ready for Sabbath rest tomorrow! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Jesus’ words aren’t optional upgrades. They aren’t add-ons to the life you already have. They are FOUNDATIONAL. Here’s the thing about words:
Words help us give meaning to ideas.
Our hearts are stirred toward belief through words.
Words often inspire us.

BUT... not all the words we read and hear today are words that we can stand on. Not all words are solid enough to build an entire life on.

H O M E C O M I N G 2024 ❤️
I have so much gratitude for this sweet season of shared friendships, going to dances in the same friend group, and the way these girls care for each other. I prayed when they were little that they would always stay close friends and the Lord has truly answered that prayer.

These boys patiently waited while the girls scrambled to get ready after an all day volleyball tournament! They are kind and respectful. Genuine friends. I’m grateful for the way this foursome fills our house with fun and laughter!

The high school years are flying and I’m just trying to soak it all in before it’s gone!

Everyone should be so lucky to have a friend like @coachkim4u She is so incredibly generous, compassionate, loyal, full of wisdom, and fun! We spent 3 lovely hours on my patio Saturday morning making Homecoming bouquets and boutonnières. We shared stories and laughter while creating beauty from God’s beauty. I’ve always said that we are MADE to CREATE. My heart felt fully alive connecting with my friend and being a maker. Thank you Kim for teaching me so much more than how to make a bouquet but how to live and love in the Kingdom. ❤️❤️

I keep forgetting to share that I’m also BACK to

I keep forgetting to share that I’m also BACK to school! It’s my second year as an adjunct professor @usmdpt co-teaching with the incredible @styledbychelseaelyse We’re already having so much fun bringing our love for Peds to PT students. And, I’m super thankful that I have so many young momma friends willing to bring in their cute babies for baby lab! Love these two mommas!

Laced up my racing shoes for the first time in a LONG time! The last race I trained for was in 2022 (a half marathon) and I got COVID 6 days before race day. My lungs and quarantine kept me from competing.

Thank goodness for @jolenegranfors who talked me into running the Plaza 10K! It was a beautiful morning for a long run and it felt so refreshing to be back out among runners. There is so much joy and camaraderie in the running tribe! I felt incredible and ran my fastest 10K ever, finishing at 1:01. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Give an enneagram 3 a goal to chase and she’ll be the happiest ever when she reaches it. I’m riding a joy high today! 🤣🤣🤣

Our family had the joy of starting and ending the summer by celebrating two weddings, both beautiful women of God who we’ve had as a part of our extended family in different seasons of life. Both weddings gave me so much hope for the future church. These 20-somethings love God with their whole heart, are passionate about His kingdom and justice-minded in their work. I’m thankful for a generation who is modeling for my teens how to live for Jesus, deeply connected to Him AND to each other.

As I read Psalm 144 this morning, I was reminded of these words to pray for the next generation: for sons to mature like well-watered plants and daughters to be filled with grace and the strength of a firm foundation:
“May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭144‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬
